INTERDENTAL BRUSHES

WHAT IS AN INTERDENTAL BRUSH?

An interdental brush is designed to remove plaque from the gaps and cracks between the teeth. Plaque can gather in the cracks as they are difficult to reach with a normal toothbrush.

WHY DO I NEED TO CLEAN BETWEEN MY TEETH?

It is easy for food to get trapped and plaque to collect in the spaces between the teeth as they cannot be reached with a normal brush. Using an interdental brush helps to remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth. Interdental brushes help to reduce the risk of decay and gum disease.

SHOULD I USE AN INTERDENTAL BRUSH RATHER THAN A TOOTHBRUSH?

No, interdental brushes should be used in addition to normal toothbrushes.

WHY IS MY NORMAL TOOTHBRUSH NOT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH?

The brush head is too large to clean between the teeth. An interdental brush is designed specifically to clean the cracks and gaps and remove food deposits and plaque.

HOW CAN AN INTERDENTAL BRUSH HELP?

Interdental brushes are small, flexible and fit inside the cracks between the teeth. They are designed to remove plaque and food therefore reducing the risk of decay and gum disease.

HOW SHOULD I USE AN INTERDENTAL BRUSH?

  • Choose a suitable size interdental brush and gently glide the bristles between the teeth.
  • Never force the brush between the teeth and be careful not to jerk the brush.
  • You will need a larger brush head for the back teeth.
  • Your dentist or dental hygienist will demonstrate how to use an interdental brush.

WHEN SHOULD I USE IT?

You can use an interdental brush whenever or wherever you like.
