Zia has extensive experience as a specialist orthodontist but he also has training in other areas that aid his understanding of the face and smile. Specialist Orthodontists are specifically trained and often work with Facial Surgeons in order to advise the correct movements necessary for the ideal aesthetic result. Zia spent two years completing surgical training in Maxillo-Facial Surgery and performed routine and extensive procedures such as repairing fractured cheekbones and jaws. For facial injuries, he was also the treating speciality ‘doctor on call’ whilst working in the Maxillio-Facial Surgery Department at the Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Zia recognises and understands that there is an increasing need for inconspicuous orthodontics for his patients, such as invisible braces or hidden braces. He is a registered provider of Invisalign aligners and the Incognito and WiN hidden ‘lingual brace’ systems.
This enables him to make informed decisions whilst treating children or adults.
Zia holds a strong philosophy of retention – he believes orthodontic treatment should only be carried out once per lifetime. Retainers are extremely important to ensure patients can keep their lovely, straight new smile forever.
Zia completed his degree in Dentistry and graduated from the University of Manchester in 2001. He then completed various training posts. These included Paediatric Dentistry and Oral Maxillo-Facial Surgery, both of which provide excellent grounding for becoming a Specialist Orthodontist. He also achieved his membership in the Faculty of Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh during this time.
His further 3 years of specialist training in Orthodontics was completed at Birmingham Dental Hospital. He was awarded a Masters in Philosophy qualification and he obtained another membership from the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh, this time in Orthodontics. Following this, he gained entry onto the General Dental Councils Specialist List for orthodontics.
His clinical expertise has been praised and he was awarded a British Orthodontic Society Prize, a highly prestigious accolade in recognition of the excellence of his treated cases.
When not working, his growing young family keep him busy, whether they create abstract art or travel together. He is also enthusiastic about restoring classic cars!
